I feel like I'm always coming back to this album, super solid. Track by track I enjoy every song. I discovered Hail The Sun about 4 years ago with this album, specifically the track Jane Doe, it was one of my top songs of that year. The album is super cohesive and flows together nicely. The vocalist Donavan Melero was also the drummer for this album, he plays the drums live when they tour, but they also now have a full time drummer. This is Hail The Sun's 2nd studio album and I think that It's an excelent sophmore album. The mathematic solos and compliacted rythms make it hard to bop your head to, but with the heaviness and groove added into the mix it makes it easier to follow along with for someone who's not super into mathcore.
This album is one of my favourite solo albums of all time. Patrick Stump, the vocalist of Fall Out Boy, released this album after a few months of touring his solo EP Truant Wave in 2011. Fall Out Boy was on hiatus at the time of this album coming out after their 3rd album Folie a Deux. The name of the album is pretty self descriptive as it takes the lyrical punch of punk with the grooves and rythms of soul. The album has an 80s pop twist (a la Patricks personal favourite, Micahel Jackson) with the addition of synths and unique soundscapes most prominent on tracks like Dance Miserable. The album doesn't shy away from the music of the year it came out, though. The influence of late 2000s early 2010s R&b and Pop is also very present in tracks like This City. The lyrics seem simple at first but like with his EP Truant Wave, he said that he tried to use stereotypical scenarios like partying, drinking, etc to talk about bigger things, specifically within the music industry, but it often gets misconstrude as a simple pop album by this. Patrick produced, wrote, and played every song on the album mainly from his home studio, which makes the sound even more impressive.
I discovered this album recently after figuring out I don't hate ska as much as I thought I did.
